MIGRATION-IDENTITY ART EXHIBITION ACCRA Who am I? And where do I belong? These ever-recurring questions have preoccupied mankind for centuries and ages. And our current age seems extremely occupied by them. Whether man has travelled through time - from early childhood to old age - or through space - from one home to the next, the answer has been and still is both individually unique and universally similar. We are searchers and travelers, whether voluntary or forced by circumstances, and we react as humans to the ever changing context, skillfully as much as clumsily. These two questions - who am I? where do I belong? - are simultaneously frightful and full of potential. Whether we succeed in life is determined by our capacity to find suitable answers, and possibilities to act on them. From December 2nd to December 4th 2010 Studio Kurtycz presented its 2010 Art Experience as an homage to all those searchers and travelers who have left a home towards unknown horizons. The exhibit, conceptualized as an art project itself, was meant to show the work by Studio Kurtycz as well as to promote the work of local artists around a joined theme. This year the exhibition showed works by Olaniyi Rasheed Akindiya a.k.a. Akirash, Ana Sartori, Anna Kurtycz, Dorothy Akpene Amenuke, Jennifer Opare Ankrah and Rudek van der Helm. The official opening took place on Thursday December 2nd, at 7.00 PM. The opening speach was asured by Ms Elizabeth Adjei, Director of the Ghana Immigration Service and Mr. Gerard Duijfjes, Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana. On Saturday 4th, a demostration in printmaking was given We want to thank Lin Buckland, Jan-Pieter Ohler, Dominique Verdugo, Sophie and Jean-Philippe Momoux Feredj, Fedor Meerts and Frits van Bruggen for all their invaluable help that made this event possible. |
